The Institute for Creation Research (ICR) has recently completed their multi-year project dealing with a scientific evaluation of the age of the earth and produced two book publications and an accompanying DVD.Within their research, the ICR research team makes many claims that geological evidence, including their findings dealing with dating rocks using the fission track dating method, provides substantial evidence for a young earth.Gemstones are an attractive field of natural history pursued by Australian Museum mineralogists for decades. From diamonds through to opals, gemstones have the ability to capture people’s imaginations in a different way to flora and fauna.Fission-track (FT) analysis using apatite and zircon was performed on samples from two fracture zones (FZ) at the depths of 11 m within the 1838 m borehole core penetrating the Ryoke Granitic Rocks in the Nojima Fault at Nojima-Hirabayashi, Awaji Island, Japan, drilled just after the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake.
All other radiometric dating techniques rely on the relative abundances of a known parent isotope of an element and its corresponding concentration of daughter decay products.
It used modern age-dating and chemical techniques to pin-point their deep geological origin.
Implications for this research include a wider understanding of the time lines and geological evolution of the mantle and crust below continents.
Some personal descriptions of people and events are included to give a flavor of the atmosphere and audience responses.
